This figure, Inspector General of Police (Komjen) Pol, received full trust from the members of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) through a strict and transparent selection process. Setyo’s appointment is considered to reflect a strong commitment to eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

The process of electing the KPK Chairman for the 2024-2029 period involves various stages starting from selection to the fit and proper test. (fit and proper test). This stage aims to ensure that only individuals with high integrity are selected.
Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), as the selection committee, conducted a series of tests since early November 2024. Ten candidates for the KPK leadership who passed the administrative selection underwent a fit and proper test for three days, starting from November 18, 2024. In this session, each candidate was asked to present their vision and mission in front of the members of the DPR.
The process concluded on November 21, 2024, when Commission III held a plenary meeting to determine the five names for the KPK leadership. Setyo Budiyanto was finally elected as the Chairman of the KPK after receiving the majority of votes from the members of the DPR. “Setyo’s experience and strong network were the main reasons for his selection,” said the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman.
Setyo Budiyanto’s Wealth: Transparency Without Debt
Based on the LHKPN submitted on April 1, 2024, Setyo Budiyanto’s total wealth is recorded at Rp 9.6 billion. The majority of this wealth comes from land and buildings spread across several major cities in Indonesia.
The largest asset owned by Setyo is land and buildings in South Tangerang worth Rp 5.5 billion, followed by land and buildings in Makassar worth Rp 1.7 billion. Additionally, he also owns a plot of land in Bogor valued at Rp 400 million.
This wealth demonstrates Setyo’s efficient lifestyle. He reported not having any debts or securities. “Transparency in reporting assets is part of the integrity of a KPK leader,” said Nasir Djamil, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives.
Vehicle Assets and Cycling Hobby of Setyo Budiyanto
In addition to land and buildings, Setyo also has transportation assets worth a total of Rp 946 million. Among them are a 2012 Toyota LX car valued at Rp 875 million and a 2016 Piaggio Vespa motorcycle worth Rp 21 million.
Interestingly, Setyo Budiyanto also reported two units of road bikes as part of his assets. The 2020 RB bike and the 2022 Trek RB bike have a total value of Rp 50 million. This indicates the cycling hobby of the new KPK Chairman.
In the LHKPN report, Setyo also listed cash and cash equivalents worth Rp 705 million. This figure reflects fairly good financial management, considering that most of Setyo’s wealth consists of fixed assets.
Track Record and Professional Experience of Setyo Budiyanto

Setyo Budiyanto has a solid professional background. Before serving as the Chairman of the KPK, he was the Director of Investigations at the KPK. This position allowed him to play a role in uncovering various major corruption cases.
He also served as the Chief of Police of North Sulawesi before being transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture as the Inspector General in 2023. This career journey demonstrates his consistency in carrying out duties in the field of supervision and law enforcement.
“Setyo has very relevant experience to lead the KPK, especially in investigating major cases,” added Nasir Djamil, who also supports Setyo’s election as KPK Chairman.

As the Chairman of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto faces significant challenges in eradicating corruption in Indonesia. One of them is maintaining the independence of the KPK amidst the political dynamics that often influence law enforcement.
