Recently, cases related to online gambling have still been a public concern, especially after the manipulation of the site blocking system involving the Ministry of Communication and Digital. (Komdigi).
The General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police has arrested around 28 suspects in the online gambling website case involving individuals from the Ministry of Communication and Digital. (Komdigi).
The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Karyoto, mentioned in a press conference that a total of 24 suspects have been successfully apprehended and four others have been designated as DPO (wanted persons).
“In total, we arrested 24 suspects and designated four people as DPO,” he said, quoting from Antara on Monday (25/11/2024).
They also mentioned that out of the 24 suspects, each person had their own role. Among them, four people acted as the operators/owners/managers of the gambling websites, namely the initials A, BN, HE, and J. (DPO).
Then, seven others acted as agents searching for online gambling websites, including B, BS, HF, BK, JH (DPO), F (DPO), and C (DPO). Three others acted as collectors of online gambling website lists and received deposits from the agents, namely A alias M, MN, and DM.
Meanwhile, nine rogue employees of the Ministry of Communication and Information played a role in searching and tracing gambling websites and blocking them, namely DI, FD, SA, YR, YP, RP, AP, RD, and RR.
Karyoto also mentioned that there are two individuals involved in money laundering crimes (TPPU), namely D and E. Meanwhile, another person with the initial T is responsible for recruiting and coordinating the suspects.
One of the main suspects, Alwin Jabarti Kiemas, has come under public scrutiny on social media because he is said to have a family connection with the 5th President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, and this rumor has been directly denied by the relevant parties.
Then who is Alwin Jabarti?
Alwin Jabarti Kiemas came under public scrutiny after being named a suspect in the online gambling case by the Ministry of Communication and Digital. (Komdigi). Through the case, Alwin played a role in filtering or verifying sites to prevent them from being blocked.
Based on the investigation, Alwin’s role is also said to be a liaison between the gambling operators and certain parties in Komdigi. Alwin also collaborated with two other suspects, namely M alias A and AK.
Their roles are said to be quite structured, with Alwin as the leader and strategist. Meanwhile, before getting entangled in legal issues, Alwin had a fairly successful career in the digital world.
Alwin is the CEO of PT Djelas Tandatangan Bersama or TekenAja, a company that provides digital signature services, and he started his career in the banking sector because he had previously worked at HSBC and Citibank.
