Residents’ settlements in Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, were flooded up to 2.5 meters on Thursday morning due to the overflowing Ciliwung River.
“The water level has now reached 2.5 meters.” Hundreds of residents’ houses have been affected by the flood,” said the Head of RT 13 RW 04 Kampung Melayu Village, Sanusi, when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday (28/11/2024).
He suspects that the flood occurred due to the overflowing of the Ciliwung River. The Ciliwung overflowed because of water coming from Bogor and heavy rain that occurred in the Jakarta area on Wednesday (27/11/2024) night. “The water started to rise around 9:00 PM WIB and has now reached 2.5 meters. The cause of the flood is the water coming from Bogor and heavy rain,” said Sanusi.
He explained that the flood was not only experienced by the residents of RT 13, but also affected 10 other RTs in RW 04.
In fact, Sanusi estimated that there are five RW in the Kampung Melayu sub-district affected by the flood due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River. “The number of houses affected by the flood is estimated to be more than 300 houses,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
“There are some residents who want to evacuate, but they are still waiting for the SAR team. However, most residents are ‘on standby’ in their homes,” he said.
Until now, Sanusi said, there has been no assistance from the local government to help the flood-affected residents.
Another resident, Joni, recounted that the water started entering the residential area around 9:00 PM WIB with a very rapid duration. “In fact, last night the water level kept rising. The water level has reached more than 2 meters,” he said.
Residents Reluctant to Evacuate

According to him, even though it has reached alert level I, the residents are still reluctant to evacuate to higher ground. “They (the residents) are already used to (floods), they just stay alert at their respective homes,” he said.
Residents only moved their motorcycles to higher ground to avoid engine damage.
