Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR), Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi, believes that the lack of attractiveness of Polling Stations (TPS) is one of the factors contributing to the decline in public participation in the 2024 regional head elections (pilkada).
In addition, the improper placement of polling stations also contributes to the low public participation. It is known that there has been a decline in public participation in the five-yearly contest, especially in Jakarta, reaching up to 50 percent.
“Yes, from what I see at the polling stations around me, most of the people who come to one polling station, the polling stations are mostly located in alleys. Meanwhile, if you come by car, I’m sorry, parking is quite difficult if the polling stations are in the alleys,” said Dede Yusuf to reporters on Friday (29/11/2024).
“As a result, oh, parking is difficult, so in the end, they don’t go.” That could also be one of the reasons. That means, sometimes the placement of polling station locations is not attractive to visit,” the Democratic Party faction member of the House of Representatives added.
Not only that, he revealed that he had difficulty finding the polling station when he was about to exercise his voting rights in the Jakarta 2024 gubernatorial election. This is because the polling location is in an alley and has not been made as attractive as possible.
“Well, this is what happened, we, I as a resident of DKI, of course, I didn’t even know where the polling station was.” Only looking for it at the location, on the day itself, just looking for it then. It means that the establishment of polling stations is not as interesting as when we have the 17th of August celebrations. “Every alley is decorated, that’s interesting,” said Dede Yusuf.
“Well, the officials like RT and RW are also less active in socializing where the TPS locations are,” he added.
