The Pramono Anung-Rano couple has declared a victory claim in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. He is confident of obtaining 50.07% of the votes based on the real count results from Sirekap KPU Jakarta.
This has drawn criticism from Political Researcher from BRIN, Wasisto Raharjo Jati. According to him, it is not proper for Pramono-Rano to precede the manual count by the Jakarta KPU.
Wasis observed that the early declaration made by Pramono-Rano has disturbed the dignity of the KPU. He is concerned that if the manual count later yields different results, it will spark controversy in the community.
“The dignity of the KPU needs to be respected,” explained Wasisto when contacted on Friday (29/11/2024).
Wasisto said that the initial declaration before waiting for the manual count results seems to disrespect the KPU institution as the election organizer.
“I think this could further marginalize the role of the KPU as the electoral authority from start to finish because the public becomes increasingly dependent on survey results,” said Wasisto.
On the other hand, several instances of fraud in the voting process are still occurring. Recently, the head of the KPPS at polling station 28 Pinang Ranti, East Jakarta, was caught voting for Pramono-Rano.
The 18 Pramono-Rano ballots that were marked were placed in the ballot box. The perpetrator has been dismissed.
Wasisto said that the results of the real count and quick count in the election indeed create euphoria and dysphoria for the candidates.
“It would be best if each candidate pair could exercise restraint, along with their partners, until the KPU process is complete,” Wasisto emphasized.
