Lampung – The fire that has engulfed the Bakung Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Bandar Lampung since Wednesday night (4/12/2024) is still being extinguished by a joint team. Until Friday morning (6/12/2024), the firefighting efforts had not yet fully yielded results.
The Head of the Fire and Rescue Department (Damkarmat) of Bandar Lampung, Antoni Irawan, revealed that 22 units of vehicles and heavy equipment have been deployed to handle the widespread fire.
Of that number, 16 units came from the Fire and Rescue Department (Damkartan), 4 supply vehicles from the Environmental Agency (DLH), and 2 vehicles from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Additionally, heavy equipment was deployed to reach fire points that were difficult to access.
“Our team divided the firefighting efforts into three main locations, namely the central fire area, the Umbul Kunci housing wall, and the area near Mount Bakung.” Heavy machinery was very helpful in accessing hard-to-reach locations,” said Antoni, Friday (6/12/2024).
The fire was first detected just before Maghrib on Wednesday night. Although the fire was initially extinguished, it reappeared in several spots. The current firefighting efforts involve personnel from Damkartan, DLH, BPBD, and Satpol PP.
“The extinguishing process is still ongoing. We are making every effort to control the fire and prevent its spread,” added Antoni.
