Jakarta – The Ministry of Home Affairs recorded that 28 election organizers died during the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.
“In 2024, there have been 28 (officers) as of December 8 who have passed away,” said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto during a Working Meeting of Committee I of the DPD RI with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He explained that the biggest factor causing those officers to die during the 2024 Pilkada was health-related issues.
“Most of them, based on our records, were due to exhaustion, heart attacks,” he said.
He mentioned that the number of officers who passed away during the 2024 Pilkada was fewer compared to the number of officers who passed away during the 2019 and 2024 elections.
“This, when compared to the previous periods, the numbers are certainly much lower,” he said.
However, Bima emphasized that this figure remains a note for the conduct of elections in the country so that in the future it can provide a healthy electoral system.
“Nevertheless, this remains a note for all of us on how to eliminate or reduce the number of election officials who died from exhaustion. This is our note moving forward to improve the system together, both technically and administratively,” he said.
