Semarang – Sad news comes from the world of traditional puppet theater in the homeland. Warseno Slenk, a renowned puppeteer from Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, was reported to have passed away on Thursday (12/12/2024) at 04:30 AM WIB, at the age of 59.

The sad news was confirmed by the late person’s nephew, Jatmiko. He said that the puppeteer Ki Warseno Slenk passed away after undergoing treatment for three days in the hospital due to heart disease.

“Mr. Slenk had been treated at PKU for three days, and his body has now been taken home,” he said.

Next, the body will be buried in Astana Depokan, Juwiring, Klaten, Central Java, on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Warseno, who is also the younger brother of puppeteer Anom Suroto, leaves behind a wife and two children. One of his children, named Amar Pradopo, also follows in his father’s footsteps by pursuing the art of wayang.

Previously, on November 23, Ki Warseno Slenk was involved in the Socialization of the 4 Pillars and the National Prayer conducted by the Deputy Chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Lestari Moerdijat, at Sasono Sumiwo Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat Surakarta, Central Java.

Puppet master Ki Warseno Slenk, during the wayang performance, played the story of Wahyu Cakraningrat, which contains philosophical values about leadership, justice, and wisdom.

At that time, Ki Warseno also took the opportunity to remind the younger generation, especially in Surakarta, not to forget Javanese culture, including wayang kulit.

He also appreciated the socialization of the four pillars following the still minimal involvement of various groups in caring for and preserving culture in the homeland.

“The nobility of a nation’s dignity comes from its culture, so if culture is upheld, then, God willing, our dignity will also be upheld,” he said.
