Prabowo Arrives in Egypt to Attend the D-8 Summit and Meet President El-Sisi

Jakarta President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Cairo International Airport, Egypt, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, for a state visit.

Prabowo is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and attend the Developing Eight (D-8) Summit.

Based on the press release from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo arrived in Cairo, Egypt around 8:15 PM local time.

At the foot of the airplane stairs, Prabowo was welcomed by Egypt’s Minister of State for Military Production, Major General Muhamad Solah, Egypt’s Ambassador to Indonesia Yasser Hassan Elshemy, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Cairo Lutfi Rauf, and the Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Colonel Dafris D Syafruddin.

After that, Prabowo Subianto walked past the honor guard who also welcomed his arrival. From the airport, Prabowo and his entourage then headed straight to the hotel where he would be staying.

In Cairo, Prabowo will make a state visit by meeting with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This will be the first state visit by the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Egypt since 2013.

“Egypt is our close friend, a strategic partner for Indonesia, and an important country in the Middle East.” “I will hold a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi,” said Prabowo before his departure at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

In addition to the state visit, Prabowo is also scheduled to attend the 11th Developing Eight (D-8) Summit. In this conference, Indonesia will assume the chairmanship of the D-8 in 2026.

Prabowo in Egypt for 3 Days

Previously, the President and his entourage took off from the TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, around 11:45 AM WIB. During this visit, Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Based on the information, Prabowo is scheduled to be in Egypt for three days, from December 17 to 19, 2024. From Egypt, Prabowo will visit Malaysia to meet with Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim.

“(I) also stopped by Malaysia to meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim,” said Prabowo.

For your information, this time the D-8 Summit carries the theme “Investing in Youth and Supporting Small Medium Enterprises: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy”.

The theme aligns with the priorities often conveyed by President Prabowo, especially regarding the enhancement of international cooperation in the economic field.
