Soon Returning to the Philippines, Mary Jane: Thank You President Prabowo, Coordinating Minister Yusril

Jakarta – Death row inmate in a drug smuggling case, Mary Jane Veloso, expressed her gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, for approving her repatriation to the Philippines.

“Thank you Mr. Prabowo, Minister Yusril, and all the people of Indonesia who have supported Mary Jane.” God bless,” said Mary Jane before being dispatched from the Women’s Penitentiary Institution (LPP) Class II A Pondok Bambu, Jakarta, Tuesday night (12/17/2024).

Mary Jane also thanked Indonesia and expressed her love for Indonesia on that occasion.

When asked about her feelings, Mary Jane admitted that she was very happy to be sent back to her homeland.

“I am healthy, I am very happy, and I am grateful,” he said, as reported by Antara.

Mary Jane was dispatched from LPP Pondok Bambu to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, at 19:17 WIB. She was wearing a black t-shirt and left under police escort in a black van.

Before leaving, Mary Jane said a few sentences to the media crew who had been waiting outside the prison gate. She also waved her hand while smiling.

Upon arriving at Soetta Airport, Mary Jane will participate in the prisoner handover ceremony conducted by the Acting Deputy for Immigration and Correctional Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs (Kumham Imipas), I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, to a representative of the Philippine Embassy at 9:00 PM WIB.

After that, Mary Jane will be repatriated to the Philippines using Cebu Pacific Airlines flight 5J760 at 00:05 WIB, Wednesday (12/18/2024) early morning.

Mary Jane arrived at LPP Pondok Bambu on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 07:30 WIB. Upon her arrival at the prison, Mary Jane underwent a health examination, administrative verification, and the signing of the handover report, before being placed in the provided living quarters.

Before being transferred to the Philippines, Mary Jane was required to participate in an environmental introduction program at Pondok Bambu Women’s Prison, as part of the initial orientation procedures in the prison environment.

The Philippine and Indonesian governments have agreed to transfer Mary Jane through the signing of a practical agreement. The Philippine government agreed to all the conditions proposed by Indonesia for Mary Jane’s transfer to her hometown.

The Minister of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, and the Deputy Minister of Justice of the Philippines, Raul Vasquez, signed a practical arrangement regarding the transfer of Mary Jane in Jakarta last Friday (December 6).

Mary Jane Veloso is a death row inmate in a case involving the smuggling of 2.6 kilograms of heroin, who was arrested at Adisutjipto Airport, Yogyakarta, in April 2010. Mary Jane was sentenced to death by the Sleman District Court in October 2010.
