Tok! The government recognizes Jusuf Kalla as the legitimate Chairman of PMI.

Jakarta, The government, through the Ministry of Law, has declared that the legitimate chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is Jusuf Kalla.

This was conveyed by Minister of Law Supratman after reviewing and examining the PMI’s articles of association and the national and international Red Cross policies.

“After conducting a study based on the articles of association and bylaws (AD/ART) of the Indonesian Red Cross, the Ministry of Law has recognized the AD/ART as well as the new management of the Indonesian Red Cross under the leadership of Mr. Jusuf Kalla,” said Supratman at the Office of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, Friday (20/12/2024).

In response to that, Jusuf Kalla (JK) expressed gratitude for the recognition from the government. He also hopes that with the direct validation from the Ministry of Law, there will no longer be any parties legally claiming to be part of the leadership of the PMI organization.

“We from PMI would like to express our gratitude for the inauguration, both the bylaws and the new board, which includes myself.” Therefore, with this, of course, the issues regarding the new management, as explained by the legitimate government’s directive, are clear,” emphasized JK.

The former Vice President stated that the principle of the International Red Cross is that there can only be one Red Cross in one country. Therefore, he hopes that with the government’s decision today, the turmoil within the PMI has come to an end.

“According to the government’s explanation, the matter is resolved,” said JK.

Previously, there was turmoil over dualism in leadership within the humanitarian organization Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). Jusuf Kalla (JK) and Agung Laksono both claim to have been elected as the chairman of PMI for the 2024-2029 period based on two different national conferences (munas).

JK was elected as the General Chair of PMI in the national conference held at Hotel Sahid, Jakarta, on Sunday, December 8, 2024. On the same day, Agung Laksono was appointed as the chairman of the rival version of PMI at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta.
