SECRETARY General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto touched on the values taught by Indonesia’s first President Soekarno (Bung Karno). One of them is that going to prison is a sacrifice in realizing one’s ideals.

“Because as Bung Karno did, going to prison is part of the sacrifice for the ideals,” said Hasto in a video statement, Thursday (26/12).

Hasto conveyed this while showcasing the book titled ‘Bung Karno: Penyambung Lidah Rakyat Indonesia’ by Cindy Adams, which is claimed to be his book of struggle. In chapter 9 titled ‘Entering Detention,’ which recounts Soekarno being imprisoned by the Dutch government.

Hasto urged all PDIP cadres not to be afraid to voice the truth. The dignity of the party and the Chairperson of PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri, must be protected from various situations.

“We will protect the dignity of the General Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan from various attempts to undermine the party’s dignity and authority just because of power ambitions,” said Hasto.

Hasto mentioned that law enforcement officers are used in every way to intimidate and state resources are used for practical political interests. For Hasto, this challenge must be faced by the PDIP to ensure that democracy is maintained.

“That is why these are the values we fight for.” The values of democracy, the values of people’s sovereignty, and how to build the supremacy of law. “Justice-oriented law,” said Hasto.

PDIP, he said, will not give up and is ready to face the worst risks. Even though various intimidations keep coming.

“For that reason, we will never give up.” Whether through a formal intimidation process or through informal means, we are prepared for the worst risks,” said Hasto.

Previously, the KPK officially announced Hasto Kristiyanto as a bribery suspect related to the fugitive Harun Masiku. Hasto is said to have actively worked to ensure Harun won a seat in the DPR in the 2019 election through the process of replacement in the middle of the term (PAW).

He is also a suspect in the alleged obstruction of investigation case. Hasto is suspected of obstructing the investigation in the bribery case of the DPR member’s PAW since the operation was launched.

One of them is that he allegedly ordered several phones to be damaged and discarded.
