Jakarta The Secretary-General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, spoke out after being named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the bribery case of the Interim Replacement (PAW) of former PDIP legislative candidate Harun Masiku.
Through a video broadcast, Hasto conveyed that PDIP is a party that always respects the decisions of the KPK. Hasto has been aware of the risks from the beginning when criticizing the government. Including going to prison.
“I have already understood the various risks that I will face,” said Hasto Kristiyanto in the video received on Thursday (26/12/2024).
In addition, Hasto also mentioned various intimidations from other parties asking PDIP not to dismiss constitutional violator cadres, referring to Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Here is the full statement from PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto:
Thank you to all the Indonesian people whom I love and am proud of. After my designation as a suspect by the KPK, the stance of the PDI Perjuangan is to respect the decision of the KPK.
We are law-abiding citizens. PDI Perjuangan is a party that upholds the supremacy of the law. From the beginning, when I criticized how democracy should be upheld, how the people’s voices cannot be silenced, how the rule of law cannot be extinguished, and how the eyes of authoritarian power, which oppresses its own people, must be stopped, I already understood the various risks I would face.
So, as a student of Bung Karno, I follow what is written in this book by Cindy Adams.
This is my book of struggle. And all the cadres of PDI Perjuangan are now entering chapter 9.
Where was Bung Karno when he founded the PNI? The principle he upheld was non-cooperation. For the sake of the ideals of an Independent Indonesia, for the sake of a sovereign people who can associate, gather, and express their opinions, prison is also a path and a part of the sacrifice for the ideals.
Those are the values fought for by all cadres of the PDI Perjuangan. When various intimidations arose, so that the dismissal of individuals with power ambitions would not be carried out, and the constitution seemed to be violated with the extension of the term of office for 3 periods, or that extension of the term of office, then for the sake of the constitution, Mrs. Mega stood firm in safeguarding democracy.
