“Since December 24 until the second Christmas celebration on December 26, heavy rain and strong winds have struck the Minahasa Regency area.” “Therefore, many congregants did not go to church to worship,” said Albert Warokka, one of the residents of Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi, Friday (27/12/2024).
He said that although there are several worship schedules in a day, because of the extreme weather throughout the day, he and several congregants chose not to go to church.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most areas in North Sulawesi still have the potential for extreme weather.
“BMKG issued an early warning for extreme weather until December 28, 2024,” said the Coordinator of the Observation and Information Division of the BMKG Sam Ratulangi Manado Meteorological Station, Ben A Molle, on Thursday (26/12/2024).
He said that districts and cities in North Sulawesi have the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity, which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
He hopes that residents will be careful when engaging in activities during extreme weather conditions as it can cause floods, landslides, or fallen trees.
Moderate to heavy rain, which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds, occurred on December 26, 2024, in the cities of Manado, Tomohon, Bitung, Kotamobagu, and the regencies of Minahasa, North Minahasa, South Minahasa, and Southeast Minahasa.
