Erick Thohir Admits Patrick Kluivert is One of the Candidates to Replace Shin Tae-yong in the Indonesian National Team

Jakarta – PSSI officially dismissed coach Shin Tae-yong as the architect of the Indonesian national team on Monday, January 6, 2025. However, regarding STY’s replacement, PSSI chairman Erick Thohir did not announce it at the same time.

The announcement of STY’s dismissal was made directly by Erick Thohir, accompanied by PSSI Deputy Chairman Zainudin Amali and the manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, at Menara Danareksa, Jakarta.

For the replacement of STY in the Indonesian national team, Erick Thohir is still keeping the identity a secret. Only a few hints were given by the former president of Inter Milan. Erick admitted that there are three coaching candidates who have already been interviewed some time ago.

Erick Thohir also confirmed the journalists’ question that one of the names in the running to replace STY is former Barcelona and Netherlands national team striker, Patrick Kluivert.

“For the coaches who were interviewed, there were indeed 3 names at that time along with several assistants as options to accompany the coach because we believe that no coach is perfect.” Each coach has their shortcomings. Indeed, one of the candidates I interviewed whose name was mentioned earlier (Kluivert),” said Erick Thohir.

However, Erick Thohir is reluctant to confirm whether Kluivert will indeed be appointed as STY’s successor in the Indonesian national team. PSSI will officially announce it on January 12, 2025.

“Instead of guessing, from the 11th to the 12th there will be a press conference at 4 PM where the media can directly ask the coach we have agreed upon,” explained Erick Thohir.
