First Free Nutritious Meal Without Milk in Jakarta, PCO Spokesperson: Not Mandatory

Jakarta -Free nutritious meals (MBG) in Jakarta do not include a milk menu. The situation is observed at SD Barunawati 2 and SMP Barunawati, Palmerah, West Jakarta.

SD Barunawati 2 and SMP Barunawati were the schools visited by the Spokesperson of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Dedek Prayudi, the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Jabo Priyono, and the Acting Governor of Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, on Monday (1/6/2025).

There were only rice, teriyaki chicken, stir-fried long beans, fried tofu, and oranges in the MBG menu served to 558 students at SD Barunawati 2 and SMP Barunawati. The menu was prepared by the Palmerah Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), West Jakarta.

The spokesperson for the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Dedek Prayudi, stated that there is no specific menu standard set in the MBG program. The government, he said, focuses on nutritional standards, so milk is not a mandatory item on the MBG menu.

“What exists are nutritional content standards, hygiene standards, and sustainable waste management standards.” There are no menu standards, which means that milk is not mandatory. Mandatory meat, that doesn’t exist,” said Dedek.

Dedek conveyed that the fulfillment of carbohydrates can also be presented in a varied menu. For example, children who do not eat rice will have their carbohydrate needs met with other dishes, such as potatoes.

“We found a child who has some kind of phobia against rice, so the carbohydrates were replaced with potatoes.” Our brothers and sisters in Papua fulfill their carbohydrate needs with sago. So, there is no menu standard here, once again what exists are nutrition standards, hygiene standards, and also sustainable waste management standards,” explained Dedek.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono stated that milk will still be served in the MBG menu, but only 1-2 times a week.

“For the milk issue, it is planned because today there is none, two to three times a week, so it’s not every day, so the target is about two to three times a week to have the milk,” said Agus.

Meeting BPOM Standards

In addition, Agus ensured that the MBG menu served to students meets the standards set by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). Therefore, he said, the cleanliness and nutritional value of the MBG menu can be accounted for.

“There still needs to be monitoring done by the school and other parties.” “But, every government program definitely has its monitoring, so there’s no need to worry, this will definitely be guaranteed,” said Agus.
