KPSI Chairman, Jumhur Hidayat, provided a statement to the media regarding the push for a revision of the Labor Law that emphasizes worker protection and strengthening the role of BPJS. In this discussion, he also highlighted the importance of dialogue between the government, the House of Representatives, and labor unions to create regulations that favor the welfare of workers and industrial growth.
Liputan6.com, Gunungkidul -The Chairman of the Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat, appreciated the government’s and the House of Representatives’ steps in following up on the Constitutional Court’s directives regarding the Labor Law.
According to him, the effort to separate labor regulations from the Job Creation Law is a wise step that opens up space for dialogue with labor unions, the House of Representatives, and the government.
“We are grateful that a dialogue is currently taking place.” The hope is that this year the new law can be promptly enacted as a reference for workers and companies. “This is a very good step compared to the previous administration, which was less transparent,” said Jumhur.
Jumhur emphasized the importance of regulations that ensure workers have job security, eliminating overly flexible work contract systems such as 3-6 month contracts. “Workers should no longer be easily laid off or have their contracts terminated arbitrarily,” he emphasized.
With job security, workers are expected to earn a decent income. However, Jumhur also reminded that labor unions not only fight for workers’ rights but also support the revival of the industry in Indonesia.

Not only that, regarding social security, Jumhur appreciates the BPJS Employment program, but he encourages stricter enforcement of the law. “Many companies report the number of their workers or their salaries below the actual figures.” This needs to be corrected so that the social security system can be more optimal,” he said.
Jumhur also highlighted the importance of strengthening the national industry by reducing illegal imports that have been flooding the Indonesian market. He appreciates President Joko Widodo’s efforts to support the local industry, including the plan to enforce laws against illegal imports.
“If illegal imports are stopped, local industries like textiles will rise.” Just imagine, our local textile products are only used 30%. If imports are stopped, it could rise to 100%,” he explained.
Jumhur hopes that the new law will not only provide protection for workers but also encourage company growth. Thus, the welfare of workers and the strengthening of the national industry can go hand in hand.
“We must love domestic products and strengthen local companies.” If the company grows, the welfare of the workers will automatically improve,” he concluded.
This step is expected to become a new milestone in the history of industrial relations in Indonesia, providing better protection for workers while also boosting the competitiveness of the national industry.
