Anies Baswedan’s Message for Indonesians Who Want to ‘Just Run Away for Now’

Jakarta – The hashtag ‘Kabur Aja Dulu’ is currently trending on social media, reflecting the anxiety of some segments of society regarding the current state of Indonesia. Former Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan reminded that loving Indonesia is not just about feeling proud when the country is in good condition, but is actually tested when Indonesia faces various problems and needs change.
“Love is tested when the country is facing many challenges.” “It’s natural if we sometimes feel tired, because struggle without rest can feel heavy,” said Anies in a video uploaded to his X account.
According to him, the feeling of fatigue in fighting for change is not unusual. In fact, throughout history, many national figures continued to fight even though they did not have the chance to see the results directly.
“The generations of 1908 and 1928 continued to move forward even though at that time it was considered just a daydream.” Their struggle was like a combination of a marathon and a relay race, done alternately but still moving forward,” he added.

Nationalism Is Not Determined by Location

Responding to the phenomenon of people considering living abroad, Anies stated that nationalism is not determined by one’s place of residence, but by how one continues to contribute to Indonesia wherever they are.
“Many of our national figures who lived abroad for a long time still made significant contributions to Indonesia.” So, nationalism is not about where we live, but how we continue to benefit this country, no matter how small,” he said.
Anies also emphasized that for those who choose to live abroad due to personal or family needs, it is a legitimate decision. However, he reminded that not everyone has the same opportunity to move abroad.
“For those who have the opportunity to go, make the most of it, and continue to contribute to Indonesia wherever you are.” Meanwhile, for those who remain in Indonesia, let’s support each other and face this challenge together,” he concluded.
