Jakarta President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto officially appointed Brian Yuliarto as Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) in a ceremony held at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Brian Yuliarto, who previously served as the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at ITB, replaces Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro in the position of Minister of Research and Technology. Brian Yuliarto was born in Jakarta on July 27, 1975, and is known as an academic with an outstanding track record in higher education, particularly in the fields of physics engineering and nanotechnology. This led him to pursue his undergraduate education at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and earn his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Tokyo, Japan, specializing in Quantum Engineering and System Science with a focus on nanotechnology and engineering systems.

Upon returning from Japan, he returned to ITB in 2006 as a lecturer and researcher, then held various strategic positions, including Head of the ITB Student Affairs Institute (2010-2016), Head of the Physics Engineering Study Program (2016-2020), and Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at ITB (2024-2025), before finally being appointed as the Minister of Research and Technology by President Prabowo Subianto in 2025.

As an academic, Brian has been heavily involved in national and international research projects, with a primary focus on the development of nanomaterials and advanced technology-based sensors, which not only contribute to the academic field but also have a significant impact on industry and technology in Indonesia.
